Gamespy Classics | - 01.31.2000
archived news - up
Gamespy have posted a couple of articles lately that go over some of the really early classics. The most recent PlanetFargo goes over the first game I remember playing, (on the C-64) Karateka a kind of Karate game that you could play against another person (a big thing back then). In Karateka 2 or something you even got to fight with Sydney as the backdrop which I thought was pretty swank at the time. Their most recent top 10 also covers classic games, covering the top 10 classics between 79 to 85.

Finally, Gamespy also have a review on Dues Ex, a game that I'm definately looking forward too, and may well actually become a classic. They're great articles if you've got the time to read 'em

User Friendly Parody | - 01.31.2000
archived news - up
Lowtax has just started his week of User Friendly parodies, known as Loser Friendly. There are only two up so far, however he's going to spend the week bashing the linux users who think they're too good for windows. Great to see :) I find the whole ignorant MS-sucks crowd one of the most annoying group of people online. Sure, Linux is a great operating system if you're running a server, or something that requirs a stable OS. But no matter how much people like to deny it, Windows is far better for the average user out there. It's quite funny as you'll find that these followers who go around saying MS sucks are actually using Windows machine's to 'spread the word'...

After six weeks of freedom, school starts again tomorrow :( I'm going to be a mess tomorrow, I can't remember one morning this entire holidays that I've got up earlier than 9am (for the days that I've gone to the beach or something) but on the whole I havn't been waking up any earlier than 11/12 and tomorrow I've gotta be awake at like 7 :(

I wrote an article today too, about how Westwood treat their community and offering some constructive critism. I didn't get around to html'ing it today however I hope to have it up by this time tomorrow so I can score [-lp-] a little bit of linkage.

TTR Update | - 01.30.2000
archived news - up
As a few people seem to be interested, here's a quick update as to what's happening with TTR. Tim's coming along great with the layout, I got to see the latest revision of the layout a day or two ago and I really think that you'll like it. It's really good, because the actual layout is totally different to any other WW site out there, adding to the whole Revolution aspect of the site I guess

We're also really getting into the content too, so there wont be any coming soon pages either which I'm sure everyone will appreciate. We're going to make sure (and Tim's had some great ideas in this area) that will make our site really interactive, by that I mean we'll have more than just a message board thats tucked away somewhere which should really work well. I have no idea when it'll be all ready to go (we are past half way though), we're simply not going to rush it or anything, and its not like we're missing out on any TT news during our downtime. As long as we open before the evil that is BG:TT, I'll be happy :)

I was also just scoping the new content that Shadow has done at WWN, and I noticed that he added TTR to their links section. Props for that :)

Since a format I had to do a few months ago, I finally downloaded seti@home a few days ago and starting to run it again. Just now I went through a work unit in 11 hours, and have been averaging about 18 hours per work unit (I've done 7 so far) which isn't bad as the average for my platform is 27 hours. If you havn't checked it out yet, its worth a look - we could even start a team [-lp-] or something if anyone was interested :)

Nox Article Feedback | - 01.29.2000
archived news - up
I've actually recieved a bit of feedback regarding the article that I wrote about Nox as WW's pr problem. Perhaps most notable, were Shadow's comments on WWN where he commented, correctly, on how in the last couple of weeks Westwood have acted to try to make up for this. Some have speculated that this was simply due to my article, and who am I to agrue with that, after all we the elite pimps. Since then, Westwood have held such events as their chats and have almost daily have been posting new video clips from Nox. They've apparently also upped the amount of add's they're placing in mags, however i'm yet to see that.

On this subject is also the great news that the media are starting to discover how Nox is different from games such as Diablo, as the quote from a recent AVault preview shows, however I wonder if this change of heart from the press is really just a case of too little, too late? Nox has already gone gold after all.

On the surface, Nox may look like any number of RPGs on the market, such as Blizzard's Diablo or Black Isle's Baldur's Gate. Nonetheless, Westwood's offering is truly a unique effort, and one that stands firmly on its own. Surprisingly, it offers more innovations than refinements, and while it does build on some of the established successes in its genre, I've found its best qualities to be those all its own.
And finally. I've been beginning to notice (especially through my travels searching for news at RTSFan :) how some Diablo sites have been commenting how rediculous this entire idea of giving $4000 to the best Nox fan site really is... while I realise why WW thought up the idea, I honestly cant figure out what caused WW to actually go ahead with the plan... what a great idea, if you can't get fans for a game, simply buy them :(

Jeff K, everyones favorite hax0r has written up another one of his articles. However, unlike his great hardware reviews, this time Jeff discusses the different types of hax0rs out there, which ones are good and which ones are bad. Quite an informative read.

A DOS attack means they make u haveto use the DOS Prompt to logon to AOL because they broak your WINdows!
That was probably the best part in it for me, as I was recently told the exact same thing in #ts by someone who tried to convince me that the DOS actually stood for Disk Operating System...

I also think our esteemed leader mike deserves massive props for his mp3 collection. He has 7 gigs, yes 7, of mp3s. That is not even the amazing thing. He downloaded them through a 28.8 modem. Wow.

Anyway, the bell is about to ring and before my teacher shits herself because i'm not looking for something spanish i better go. And mike, hurry up and get that cable modem so i can leech :)

After reading the review on it at CNN, I'm definately adding one of these to my "I want" list. At only US$499 its not all that espensive, especially when you consider what you're getting. However it, like all other head sets thus far isn't all that good for gaming, but I'm sure it's allot better than those bulky VR head sets that used to be around a few years ago.

au allows more pr0n | - 01.28.2000
archived news - up
The Office of Film and Literature Classification, who rate as the name implies literature and film (and games too) have lifted their ban on the french movie Romance as its "explicit depiction of actual sexual activity, an implied depiction of sexual violence and adult themes of very high intensity" on its artistic merits. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more pr0n, but I just love how they can justify letting the film in due to its artistic nature... it leads me to wonder who watches pr0n to appreciate its artistic qualities?

I gotta admit, I love how liberal the french (and europeans in general) are with issues such as this. I remember going to a train station in paris this time last year, and one of those billboard add things for evian water which had a topless chick in it... i'm like "whoa, this owns." You don't get anything like that at all here, they're not really allowed to show anything until at least 9:30pm :(

Thief 2 | - 01.28.2000
archived news - up
Just finished downloading the demo, 130 odd megs takes a while for those of us who are bandwidth impaired. From the few minutes I've actually played it, it seems pretty impressive, and I'm really enojying it. The only fault I can really find it is its similarity to Sys Shock 2, engine wise. For example, the people move with the same fluid action that the people moved in SS 2, which to me always looked a little unatural, and a few of the sound effects (such as the healing potion) sound almost identical to those found in SS 2.

Those points are pretty insignificant tho, which shows how hard it is to fault the demo (the scripted events are great). I'll get around to writing an article up about it once i've finished the demo.

As if the fact that I used the same title for the last two updates (they were ten days apart tho...) wasn't bad enough, my monitor (17' Trinitron) kinda died, as the cable that goes between the monitor and the video card broke (tore... whatever) while I was pulling my computer out to fix another peice of hardware. So for the next day or so, I have to use the 14' no-name brand monitor that I use with my (currently dead) linux box, at a awe inspiring resolution of 800 x 600 :(. And to add insult to injury the refresh rate is slow enough so that you can occasionally see a faint ghost for a around a short time as you change windows...

I know it's just a monitor, but I seriosly don't know how some people can live with something like this...

As it's a slow news day what could be more fun than reading some articles, notably articles at Gamespy. Some of their more recent articles include one that goes over the Stats of what people are playing with Gamespy (hl was the easy winner) and the most recent 'What we're playing' where they do exactly that, talk about what they're currently playing. However the most interesting thing over there at the moment is an interview that they have with the two guys that do Penny Arcade, a gaming comic I'm sure most of you have come across in the past. As there really isn't all that much happening, reading those is a great way to fill in some time :)

There really isn't much to post about, for the second day in a row :(

Sure, there's a new TS patch out, a few more interviews but no-one comes here to see those, you've all seen them at Tumsun, or another site by now anyway... and thats why this site normally doesn't cover news like that, there's no point going over the same thing 10 times.

The most interesting thing lately has been #ts, there's been a few people in there that I havn't seen for a while. One example I guess could be $creamer who's back from his longish holiday and Kassy who's been busy at work, altho at least he has a job now where his renderings can be appreciated. e-3n was also in there recently, if you didn't remember he was planning a community-reuinion type thingy. According to him, thats still happening, we'll just have to wait a few more weeks for that to happen.

Content is coming tho, TheShadow has written a great review on TS which I'll post tomorrow, plus I'm working on a few articles, one, the first installment on how to become a l33t p1mps will show you to haxor public phones. I'm sure you can't wait :)

Yea, random babe picks are still coming, I just havn't got my ass into gear yet to set it up, I've got submissions for Sarah Michelle Gellar, Katie Holmes and Natalie Portman all fine choices. Should see that happening in a few days...

Nox Chat Wrap-up | - 01.14.2000

God dammit, no I do not work at Mcdonalds, so pls stop asking me if I do :( I was just using it as an example before.

[rant] Something that people often forget is how you are accountable for your actions on the net... I think allot of people percieve that they can just do whatever online, and get away with it, you can delete files, lie, break copyright etc and thats all fine because it's just the internet. One recent example of this came from Ramblings, one of the better E/N sites out there. The site was staffed, by mainly students who were friends at the same school, and as such they made comments about the school and students. Evenetually, one of the students complained to the principal showing him the site. Then all the staffers were called in, and each suspended from their school for 16 days, except for one updater who was expelled for something that he said on the site. You are accountable for your actions online... I think that some members of the TS communities (or any gaming community for that matter) should really keep that in mind. [/rant]

Earth 2150 = TS Killer = WTF? | - 01.14.2000
archived news - up
A couple of days ago, Rage posted an article type thing on BG:TS talking about how Earth 2150 was going to be a TS killer. As they generally do, a stack of other sites posted something on the same lines simply because it was posted on a large TS site, and there seems to be some rule that states you have to post non TS news, if it was posted on a large TS site. Stop being such sheep ppl...

Anyway, my general thought on the subject, is that if you think Earth 2150 is going to be some TS killer you're obviosly not playing that many games. I'm not saying that Earth 2150 is going to be worse than TS is, it is that there are plenty of better (RTS) games than both. One such example is Starcraft, and it was released a year and a half ago. If you wan't to look at games that were released after TS, then you've got AOK and Homeworld. Of course, thats all imho, I just wish ppl wouldnt be so narrow minded about games.

This is Sad... | - 01.13.2000
archived news - up
Following my Nox article, and the news that WWN might be getting $5000 for their Nox site comes confirmation that Westwood are going to be giving $4000 to the best Nox site created using their Nox site fan creation kit. I'm not sure what everyone else thinks about this but I think it's really bad that Westwood are brigning money into fan sites. Sure little items like the shirts and stuff is fine, but $4000 for making a fan site is pretty bad, and shows how desperate they are for people to be making fan sites for Nox.

$4000 is a hell of alot of money, when converting from au to US thats about 400 hours work at McDonalds... hmmm, this is a capitalist society so screw my morals and thoughts about WW offering money to fan sites. I'm in! Anyone interested in going halves and making me a layout? I'll do the content...

Build Anywhere Cheat to be Fixed | - 01.13.2000
archived news - up
I noticed at WWN that Rade said that the Build anywhere cheat will be fixed when the next patch comes out, hopefully they'll fix one or two of the other cheats and bugs while they're at it. Some people have made the comment that you can build anywhere in games like Starcraft and TA, so whats the big deal with doing it in TS? The reason is that those games were designed that way (you have to get a peon-esque unit to that location for starters) and TS wasn't. Therefore, if one person uses the cheat, they're not keeping themselves limited to the set rules of the game, and therefore unbalancing it (however, most will simply comment that the game is unbalanced as is :) and making it unfair for the other player. Having said that, theoretically, everything would be even if both players were using the cheat (such as an LoT member practise game :) however it still doesn't stay in line with the original design of the game, thus causing a problem.

They're hosting quite a few sites throughout both the WW and Craft communities and I'm told plan to host allot more. The RTSFan site its self is more of a portal page, where myself and a few others rip news of the frontpage of hosted sites and claim it as our own, plus you've got things like forums and stuff to occupy the lamers and (hopefully) create an area for some interesting discussions. As of yet, there's no rule againt putting pr0n on the server, so over the coming days I'll ensure that there are some added attrations for visiting. Articles Everywhere | - 01.13.2000
archived news - up
Well, it seems that it's a slow news week at 3D Wars as they've resorted to doing a comparision between two mouse pads. Don't get me wrong, while doing a comparision on mouse pads is fine, whats the point of comparing mouse pads that, according to the reviewer "are composed of the same material" Hmmm, what a great idea, lets write a comparision on two things that are exactly the same... actually, I'm sorry, they're not, the author does note that one is slightly bigger and has two more rubber stoppers, the difference obviosy warranting an article.

I was also surprised by the author simply dismissing the 3M Mousing Surface as "flimsy". Last time I checked, you sit your mouse pad on the desk, which is then held there by gravity, so the fact that the pad bends easially shouldn't really be an issue... he forgets to mention that the 3M Mousing Surface generally keeps the mouse ball cleaner, and is quite thin, meaning that the mouse can go over the edge of that pad without much notice. However, it's obviosly far more important to compare to practically identical mousepads, Everglide and Ratpadz than to compare different ones. The following paragraph will give you a good idea what to expect;

I found doing this battle very interesting. Normally, when we compare products, they are very different from each other. Items such as video cards and CPUs all have unique traits, but perform the same task. In this case, it's the same thing…performing the same task.
What could be more interesting then comparing the same thing, that performs the same task? Fascinating! Obviosly mom and dad have just got this guy AOL for christmas or something... don't waste your time.

However, an article that is worth reading is the Arswards '99 over at Ars Techinca. Yeah, it's just another year in review type thing, however this one was also partly decided using reader input. The categories covered include Game of the Year, Chip of the Year and Video Card of the Year. Exciting stuff.

This weeks link of the week is given to Newgrounds. Even tho it's definately not new, it's a pretty original site, featuring a stack of Shockwave programs(?), the majority of which are interactive and can be downloaded. IMHO, there best one out of the batch would be Pico, the game is described as "Religious Edutainment" lets you walk around a school and deal with the kids that took the place over... what a great way to fill in the afternoon. There's about 10 other games there which should keep you occupied for a little while, and every once and a while they add a new one to keep things fresh. It's worth a look, even if it's just to see a great example of what can be done with Shockwave.

I was just reminded that there's going to be a Nox chat on the 12th (I think according to server time that's today, for me its yesterday). The chat is with John Hight, producer of Nox and kicks on at 6pm PST on WOL. No mention of an actual room to meet in, but i'm sure it'll be pretty easy to figure out. I'm not sure if i'll make it or not, just depends if I wake up before it's afternoon or not, but from what I'm told there will be a few webmasters and stuff showing up, and WW will be giving away a stack of free stuff, so it looks like it would be a great way to pass an hour or so.

In news which i'm sure I wont live down for weeks, Australian scientists have proven something that scientists from all over the world have puzzled over for years. Using a computer simulation they proved that the smaller bubbles in a glass of Guinness do indeed go down the insides of the glass. Man, I'm glad that au tax dollars are being put to such great use, I mean screw searching for the cure of cancer, lets discover the important things. I'm told that next on the list for the scientists is discovering which property of alchohol causes the brain to make urlgy chicks look good. Here's the Yahoo article, which was noticed at Slashdot.

Infoceptor Site Awards | - 01.12.2000
archived news - up
The Infoceptor, a well known Blizzard gaming site have just posted their 1999 viewer site awards, where they, well, award sites. Among the winners were the org (both the Starcraft and Warcraft variety) and Blizzard Dynasty taking out the viewer's award for best all-round blizzard site.

It would be quite interesting to have one of these on the Westwood community, especially for things like best TS site (BG:TS or Tumsun).

Another One Bites the Dust | - 01.11.2000
archived news - up
Following the likes of RSN, Cyberman0 just informed me over ICQ that he has closed down the Westwood Underground, at least as we currently know it. Even though I've known that this was probably going to happen for a few days now, it's still sad to see such a site, thats been around since my early days at Tumsun close. The WW-U has really formed a great network of sites around it, and when it first opened showed the other general Westwood site of the time, Westwood Gamez how it was done. Much like Cyberman0 extened a thanks to the community for the support of WW-U, I'd like to say thanks to the number of its members, particulary Cyberman0 who have helped me out, and to wish them the best of luck in the future.

The first edit to the links section has already been made :/

I'm just uploading a couple of new sections, Links and Shout Outs, both of which will most likely be added to in the following days as a few members havn't added their stuff yet. Their both self explanatory, the Links section lists some of our favorite sites, with an explanation of each and Shout Outs is an area to say thanks for the people who have helped with the site.

As promised yesterday, there's a new poll, and like I predicted it's hardly original - "What news do you want to see most at [-lp-]?" As you're all smart enough to connect to the internet, I'm sure there's no point me giving a summary of each, I'm actually quite interested to see the responces we get. If you're wondering, with our old poll, most of you found your new years either g0dly(12), great(8) or lame(7), so new years was either really good, or really bad for most of us.

I'm getting near to finishing HL: OP (I spent some of today just playing up to where I was before my HD died) and it's really turning out to be everything I suspected. The puzzles and stuff have been really nicely complemented with action (for example that area around the transport system with the black ops). A full review of that should be up soon.

Finally, through my browsing I came accross this CNN article, definately something to add to your 'I wan't...' list. However the $10 000, is quite allot, I mean you could buy two of those with that much... decisions...

Community News | - 01.11.2000

As they've died out throughout the other sites, I've decided to follow on the weekly community news that I used to have at Tumsun here. You should know the drill by now simply mail me if you have some (or wan't some for that matter too... chicks only plz :)). Here's this weeks

  • Yesterday, TheShadow replaced [-lp-]Oliver (who incidently, replaced me :) as the current webmaster of Tumsun. This has been coming for a little while now, due to the fact that Oliver has needed to put a fairly large amount of time towards RTSFan. He's already brought in 3 new staffers, and I'm sure he'll be able to handle his new role fine.
  • TS Central are currently looking for another news updater or two, to compliment his already outshanding (imho) array of current updaters :) TS Central have also recently breaked the 100 000 visitor mark, quite and achievment (and probably something that [-lp-] will never see :) he is however still looking for the screenshot of the event. Mail him if you're interested in becoming a staffer or are the one with the pic.
  • Along similar lines FoO are looking for a few new staffers too. If you're interested, they've got a niffular form just waiting for you to fill it out.
  • PCNC sent out word explaining that due to some server upgrades at GSN, they have been periodically offline in the last few days and may be for the next few. Also at PCNC the results of Tim's N64 contest (which I only entered once, gaving up after I only got a 3/5): will be delayed for a few days due to computer problems that made him loose a large amount of data (hmm... sounds familiar). He should have 'em up soon.

Craft Community News | - 01.11.2000
archived news - up
Since it opened Agent911's I Can't Win has been one of my favorite sites out there, due to both his Game Reports and his (and the other staffers) comments on the Craft community happenings. As visitors to ICW will already know, a few days ago the page was temporarially closed, today LameKing explained why that happened;

One of the replies to the 77th, "new," ICW post made contained over 500 instances of the F word. Calling it a spam would be like calling Cannonballs just, "a little bad," at gaming :). It was the be all end all of spamming.

Had this not happened the ONE day I did not have Kali access since the site started, because I was flying to the net party in MN, I would have deleted the post and there never would have been a problem.

However. I did NOT have access. The post stayed up. The same day, of all days, the ad representative for our host, Maven, decided to view the site. No clue why. Maybe we had gotten big enough that she decided to see what the big fuss was. Maybe God just hates me :). Maybe it's all a plot to ruin ICW. Who knows.

500 instances of the F word = one very, very angry ad representative. But, our bad luck did not run out there. Yes, it got worse. The ad representative was...

Korean.

Well just shoot me in the head now please. She found the material offensive, and in no uncertain terms, it was decided that ICW would never see an ad again.

Looks like they really lived up to their namesake. For those who didn't recognise the significance of the ad representative being Korean, LK had recently made a humorous (or at least attempted, depending on your view of humor) post about how some Koreans behaved on Battle.net.

In other Craft news, Warcraft.org have got the scoop that Blizzard have decided to go the way started by such TS sites as RSN, BG:TS and Tumsun more than half a year ago, they're now going to be offering pr0n! The release is a fake, but it's a bit of a better attempt than Pirate's recent effort :)

Nox: WW's PR Problem | - 01.10.2000
archived news - up
I've just uploaded my first rant, something I'm sure that you could tell from the title. When I first wrote the article, it was really aimed at how the press had wrongly perceived Nox to be nothing but a Diablo clone, and what had caused that. After I wrote the draft I was talking about the subject covered by the original rant and it was commented that I could also comment on the total lack of a Nox community, which I have since done. Sorry about the general lack of activity yesterday, however due to some hd (it stopped working, and after 8 hours of attempts I gave in and formatted the bitch, losing my mammoth pr0n collection forever) problems getting my computer working again has obviosly been of a higher priority. The format also caused me to loose the almost completed links page and my bio, so at least this time I have an excuse for slacking :/

All is not lost however as once I've finished downloading WS FTP I'll be able to upload an article on the general PR problems that WW is facing with Nox. It's the article that has been sitting, almost completed on my desktop for a few days now, so I hope a few people enjoy reading that.

Finally, today will be the last day for the current poll, and it appears that most people really did have a good new years eve. During the next 24 hours, i'm going to attempt to come up with a poll question that's both witty, humorous and has something to do with the site. I'm sure that in the end though, I'll simply give up and decide on a totally un-original question like the current one...

The 10th is Here | - 01.10.2000
archived news - up
Yet im sure it doesnt mean much to the most of you. If you cast your minds back a long way, at one stage Westwood we're working on a 3D rpg game known as Swords and Sorcery that really looked like it had quite a bit of potential. However way back on May the 20th it was announced that Westwood would no longer publish the game, as they were selling the rights to the game (but not the name) to Heuristic Park (they did some of the graphics for Nox and the Unreal add-on) who were going to take the game and develop it from there.

The importance of today's date is that today is the day that Heuristic Park would be making their first official announceemnt on how the game has progressed since then. It looks like Heuristic Park will really be concentrating on the multiplayer aspects of the game, yet is there really room for it in that genre with the likes of EQ, AC and UO 2 which is due out in the future. I'm hoping that they put most of their efforts into the single player game. Either way, we'll know soon enough.

Shadow Delays His Article | - 01.10.2000
archived news - up
News has hit the [-lp-] office that Shadow, has decided to delay his latest article for about a week or so. But get this, he's delaying it to work on their Nox section, as there's apparently a chance that WWN for get a US$5000 deal, $1000 of which will line Shadow's pockets... Props to the guys if they can land this "deal", I would be quite happy to help out if you guys needed a hand :) The only thing that troubles me with the entire issue, is the chance that Dude might get some money out of it :(

I'm honestly quite curios as to who they would have the deal with, the only solution I can think of would be Westwood... and if it is Westwood why are they spending $5000 on a fan site? My problem with them spending that much money of a fan site is really the amount of people they would annoy if they did that with preferential treatment and everything... surly WW wouldn't do somethng like that, right?

Please download this, I'm so worried about you reading some chatlog which I apparently said... at least according to TSNod I said it. I actually did say the majority of that, just what I said has been edited. Apparently I said something along the lines of I hired Shinano, so I can fire him just as easially... actually no I cant. Ya see, I'm not the webmaster at tumsun anymore, Shinano's a long way up the food chain compared to me now (as in, he actually works.... I don't :).... I think I said something along the lines of that I did hire him, so he wouldnt do that for you (directing it at TsNod, talking about him posting the log). Having said that I did call him a lamer, and I did say that I hate all lamers and I did say that I couldn't wait for him to post the log.

Whatever...

I'm not going to give some long speech about how its not true or cry about it the entire subject. There's no way to definately prove that I said that, and there's no way that I can disprove that I said that, however TsNod has posted fake chat logs before, ask around. All I know is that his chat log is edited, and I know that my friends in the WW community will believe that, and thats all I care about. I don't give a flying fuck if someone who runs some small little clan belives TsNod, because his opinion doesnt matter to me anyway. This is the internet after all people, so I'm not going to loose any sleep over it. Next time I go on ICQ i'll just put TsNod on my ignore list (I don't think I've done that in about 3 years of using ICQ, so it really says something) heh, you'll probably see another chat log about with me in it next time I say something bad about him... I can't wait to see it.

Morons like him annoy me :(

Opposing Force First Look Up | - 01.08.2000
archived news - up
I've just uploaded my first look article of Opposing Force. The first look articles are written to show the writer's (in this case, mine) views on a particular game after only playing for a short period of time. At a later date, probably when i've finished it, i'll post an entire review on the game, with my thoughts on how the rest of it went. There's plenty of links to the article (sidebar, headlines, games) but just for fun - here's another one.

The Daily WM | - 01.08.2000
archived news - up
For me, today can be summed up in three words, Opposing Force and slacking. After a longish wait, Opposing Force at long last came out over here in au and it's pretty much soaked up all the spare time I've had today (only really an hour or so, between VB stuff and rl) hence the third word - slacking. Because of Opposing Force, none of the content I promised yesterday has been done, but before I go to sleep I'll get at least another article up (i'm thinking of just writing a first thought's thing on Opposing Force, rather than finish of my other article) and I'll hopefully get some more sidebar stuff up to. As its 2:30, you'll have to forgive me if they're not up to my usual standard (quality perhaps?) but you've gotta notice how I'm putting the site before my own comfort. And with the rest of the crew away (Eric with a 'business appoitment', Tim on TTR, Oliver with RTSFan (which is actually what I should be doing stuff for too, I'll start tomorrow :) and Brit just generally idle, working on a new video, I think) I hope you're enojying the show. Send comments if ya want.

As I'm about to write an article on it, I wont go into depth about Opposing Force here, but suffice to say that they've done a great job with it, from what I've played of the single player its even better than HL which is definately saying something. If you're after some single player action of the FPS variety then I'm not really sure what you're waiting for... get it! And if you don't have HL in the first place, then slap yourself (with a trout, or whatever) and go get both... sorry... I'm like this when I'm tired :(

Until I get some more content up, feel free to keep yourself occupied with... *searches for new article* the latest Planet Fargo, where he breaks it down with WuTang, foo!

The parody, which displays about 6 edited images a page, is updated daily, and after 13 or so pages they're about 3/4's of the way through it. Lords Of Tiberian won first place *by cheating throughout* December! | - 01.08.2000

Refering to "Lords Of Tiberian won first place December! - posted by TsNod @ 11:33 PM PST" you should know the page, if not, don't waste ur time.... they'll be changing addy's soon anyway. A few ppl were enjoying this (among other edits) in #ts. My edits are in bold... hope it amuses a few of you.

Just a reminder to all 3 of our friends allies who were not here in the final day of the December the month that LoT cheated more than any other clan, and subsiquently won first place! Here is two pictures so you see us sitting on top of the ladder because using those cheats was so hard that we really do deserve some respect!

There we are something that most clans have never done, cheating! Reach the top 1rst ranking as most people find it pretty hard to reach the bottom 1st ranking! Congratulation alls for developing, and using our cheats effectively. * Please remember that this month we are not reaching any tops because Warmaker and Westwood (among others) are watching over our clan very closely for the first bit of evidence that we're cheating, so we'll pretend that we're doing bad this month as this is training month!*

DSL vs. Cable | - 01.07.2000
archived news - up
I've got cable as some of you know (Road Runner by Time Warner not @Home) but IMHO I think DSL is better (in some cases). DSL can operate at different speeds... something around a 700k/350k (about that, I forgot exact numbers) which is about the same as cable (which fluctuates between about 500k to 1500k) and 1500k/700k. If you get the faster (and more expensive of course) DSL, it's better than cable I believe, but I think that cable is better than the slower DSL.

I've never tried a DSL connection so this is just from what I've read. DSL operates at more constant speed while cable fluctuates up and down, I think that DSL may have a static IP also (some cable do, not all - extra $$$ sometimes). Also, if your neighbor next door operates some warez site, you may not experience a lot of the upper cable speeds but you should definately always experience speeds faster than ISDN.

Okay, I'm tired of typing now, that'll be my technology article for the day. =)

Not a bad day at all, we actually got some considerable coverage today, props to Tumsun, CNCNZ, FoO and PCNC (sorry if I missed somebody) for their linkage. I actually got a bit of feedback today about the Site Review, so they're definately here to stay, especially since Toad is going to be lending [-lp-] a hand as he'll be writing up some site reviews too.

If my latest fiddling with FTP worked you should also now see a poll to your right. Due to the whole SSI issue, and the fact that it didn't look all that special when it was outside the sidebar, I've had to add the actual sidebar html to the index page, so when something is added to the sidebar, both the SSI and index files need to be edited. Eventually, we might write a bit of a script that automatically adds to both, but until then we'll just have to live with it. Of course, feel free to vote in our poll, they'll probably change subject about twice a week as I figure that most of our return visitors are coming back daily. Therefore, there's no need to wait an entire week.

Sorry, there isn't much more on the content front either. I've got a bio, a rant and our links section (which will not only just be a list of sites, but will have a paragraph long description of each site too) all almost completed. I also might port a couple of article's over from the One Man Army, I can tell that you all can't wait :)

Lamer of the Week: TsNod | - 01.07.2000
archived news - up
As far as i'm aware, the whole idea of a lamer of the week was introduced to the TS community by Hypertank, with his now long dead squad page Tiberian Hell Squad. The entire community would sit on the edge of their seat for every Saturday (or Sunday, depending where you lived) for the Lamer of the Week list. The list would contain either the greatest 5, or 10 lamers in the community for their actions. Make a lame update, loose it in a message board, if you did anything that you would later live to regret then you could be certain to see your name in the next list. Yep, even I appeared in the list (I think it was only once :) for this schooling that he gave me after we decided to play a 1 on 1 of Starcraft. Man I got owned :(

With memories of TH Squad, we at [-lp-] plan to keep this tradition flowing, however instead of reaching the precedent set by TH Squad with their list of lamers, we’ll stick with the just the one every week. Having said that, after hours of deliberation we decided on awarding TsNod, leader of clan LoT, [-lp-]’s lamer of the week award.

Man, where to begin? If you read yesterday’s site review of the FoO you will have noticed the paragraph that mentions him, who else would be more deservant, than a person who VT knows, and has kept a record of for his actions? Yet this is only the beginning...

But on to recent events, TsNod and his clan in general have really upheld their strong tradition of lamity. In the last month or so they’ve stolen content from TSDen, stolen layout images from FoO and have cheated on Westwood Online to achive number one on the battleclan ladder. You have to admit tho, TsNod puts up a pretty valient attempt to prove that his clan doesn’t cheat.

Warmaker: 18 (percent, al's doesnt support the symbol) of your games end as a wash game.explain that, when all other clans have 3-5 (percent)

TsNod: Internet errors caused by internet and let me in you on something if you see someone wash it isnt a tool it is a bug made by westwood even though I personally do not use it and hate people who do I know you cannot blame the people but westwood

Silly me... as TsNod says the Internet is simply working against LoT, it’s not their actions at all that are causing this, simply “internet errors.” He also puts up the very valid point that its not the users fault at all when they use a bug to cheat, they’re innocent if it occurs,. When you look at it, WW is obviosly making these people take advantage of the bugs.

However, maybe I should keep my mouth shut, frequent visitors to LoT will have noticed that (shock horror) TsNod has an 8 image chat log of me calling him a lamer and he’s holding me to ransom with it. I better be nice to him or everyone else will get to laugh at the chat log too. Apparently “im going down” once the chat log is posted… whatever.

However, it’s not all bad news when it comes to TsNod and Lot, as his host has recently asked Tsnod to find his clan another host. Sad news is, he’s getting a domain, and imalamer.com is already taken.

Congrats to TsNod, a very deservant winner of out first Lamer of the Week.

@Home to Offer Free Access | - 01.07.2000
archived news - up
ZDNet are currently reporting that Excite@Home are planning to offer free internet access, in responce (I presume) to the free DSL which was announced a few days ago. Personally, I'm not really a big fan of the whole free net access thing. While I'm all for giving net access to everyone in the ghetto (not that I wish to offend our less financially secure visitors) but considering the price nowadays of net access, having an account that makes me permantly display adds, is intermittent in service, is slower in service/tech support, and in some cases limits what sites you can visit just doesnt intice me. Furthermore, some of the free-ISP's that make you fill out this huge form so that they can target adds at you may scare away the whole crowd that want to keep their animosity.

I'm actually interested in what ppl think about the whole cable vs DSL thing too. Both of the US [-lp-] contingent have gone for cable (both @home I think, or at least Oliver's IP is similar to Eric's) and I'm hopefully going to go cable this month too. Might setup a poll about it later actually...

I think I'll make a post along these lines daily, just covering a stack of stuff like site news and other stuff that doesn't deserve its own post, like those 'blah blah' updates at VE.

I've made a few more changes to the page today. As I recieved a huge responce on that post headline issue (read: 2 emails ) I decided to change it at least temporarially, until someone complains about it. Another minor change is the current title, I thought that I would add Scooter's philosophical comments, adding a touch of class to the page :)

I've added a bit more content too, along with the FoO article, both legal and contact us are now up. I had hoped to get my bio up today too, yet I never got around to it, and as you may notice the poll's not working... it's something to do with how we can't call a second include from the first one. I'll fix that up tomorrow, need sleep...

Finally, the accounts for warmaker.com should be ready within the week according to Hamma, our host and all around nice guy. Moving there will be good to spare any legal action and to get the TTR coming soon page up, which looks good by itself, let alone the entire layout, which is looking great :)

Site Review: Fall of Order | - 01.06.2000

I've just uploaded my first site review, on the recently re-opened Fall of Order. Incase you were wondering, there really isn't any set definition on what a site review covers, what it essentially is, is an article on a site in general or a specific part of that site. I guess the best way to find out what it's all about is to simply read the article yourself. As an added incentive the article has even been spell checked and proof read, another first for me :)

Bodyguards Called In | - 01.06.2000
archived news - up
NEW YORK (Associated Press) - New York sure is a busy place, as the People's Party of TTR (recently calling themselves the Republic of TTR to help gain western backing) moved from the offensive yesterday, to the defensive today after [-lp-] formed an alliance with one who refers to himself as TheShadow, as reported by this Sky News report;

Hired Killer ( and news editor at reputable TS sites ) TheShadow, has issued a statement supporting 'The One's' claims and condemning the movements and actions of the radicaist ' Kanal':

“I have strong relations with 'The One' and will not stand for any this crap being said by the radicaist 'Kanal'. If (he) continues to spew out this filth form his mouth, he will be a marked man”

We have been unable to track down this man, known as TheShadow. After this annocement was made, Kanal was seen to be moving around with several bodyguards. Clearly aware of the mans skill.

This news follows other Anti-Kanal sentiment that has arisen within the last 24 hours. These events have lead to a large percentage of the People's Party of TTR's corporate support pulling out of joint ventures, this exemplified in a recent, almost last ditched effort by Kanal through his requesting for public donation.

"To the skilled eye, what we're seeing now is the beginning of the end for Kanal and his group," remarked 'The One' during a layed back luchtime press conference while referring to the fledgling People's Party of TTR, "I can't see them lasting any more than the next couple of weeks." When asked a question on his opinion on the ending of Kanal press representative, Mr. Thunberg's latest release, 'The One' replied humorously "Obviously Mr. Thunberg has been smart enough to work out how this matter will end. (laughs) I guess he's simply just decided to line his pockets with the public donations, I'd be comfortable in a situation like that too!"

'The Ones' press conference came after word that his other campaign against TsNod (NYSE: fag) and his clan, LoT (NYSE: lame) had been successfully ended by he and his allies. "I'd like to remain tight lipped on that one, until my allies and I decide that it's time to officially announce our victory." All he would later add on the subject was, "at least it will allow we to concentrate on this campaign now... hopefully a resolution will come soon."

And that's something that we'd all like to see.

FMV in Games | - 01.06.2000

My only real comment on the subject is that there should be more nekid, or at least semi nekid chicks in games. I'm sure that had Westwood made the bold mood to have Tanya walk around in a bikini they would have definitely sold a few more copies, or even if they let that scene with Stalin and his companion go a little longer before they were interrupted...

Gamasutra, however have managed to keep their minds out of the gutter on the subject for a little longer that I managed to. If you haven’t visited ‘em before, Gamastura is a page with articles mainly aimed at people who work in the gaming industry, or people that plan too and their lengthy articles are quite informative. This article, describing how your FMV scene's should be produced follows this general rule. Even Westwood are mentioned in their article on their great use of FMV in C&C, and their misuse of interlacing in Dune2k. Click here for some scopeage.

Press Release | - 01.05.2000
archived news - up
I'd like to put some rumors to rest and put Kanal's previous comments into context. After reading the misrepresentations that WM had presented on this very page, Kanal contacted me and asked if I could help him in this situation. He sent me the complete release that he had made to Royalty (VP. EAC) and Hamma (President EAC) as well as Mr. Hamel, commonly known as "the one." Here is what Kanal has to say to you, the people, the ones he truly cares about. So be silent my children, Kanal speaks...

Hello my children,

First off I would like to thank my most trusted friend, Kane41 for his help in dealing with this matter. Had it not been for him this "one" might have gotten the better of me. Thankfully, Kane's attention to detail, love for the Republic of TTR, and most of all, skill with the ladies, has allowed me to continue my work on the reunification process of SRTTR. To show to you my children that I do not hide things, I will present my original contact with Hamma, Royalty and the alleged "one."

I have to deny the fact that I had anything to do with this LP crap. Mike is and has always been a piece of Australian kangaroo shit and I hereby announce that I have no further affiliation with him and his LP crap and all that other techno music bullshit. As to the brutal murder of t-twilight, I have contacted my attorneys and they are already drawing up a formal complaint that will be given to the australian government.

I would also recommend highley to both of you that you do not deal with Mr Hamel in any means. I have alreadyhad a long talk with the head of GX and he has decided to terminate LP's account with them and has personally been delaying setting up the LP account. My plane is about to leave but be sure that this matter is not even close to resolved. I will be calling both hamma and royalty so that we can discuss the legal actions that will be taken against Mr. Hamel.

Tears come to my eyes as I read the great words of a a great man. Although dear friends his words might seem harsh, you must remember that he had just been through the trauma of having his beloved child, TTR, brutally murdered by a capitalist bastard such as Mr. Hamel aka "the one." 'What can I do?' I hear you ask. As the Kanal's mission gets more challenging, funds become an issue. Therefor, Kanal himself has asked that you send 1,000$ in US currency to:

Kanal
POB 237
Saunderstown, RI 02874

He adds that the bills are to be "in denominations no smaller than 20$" As the world waits to see what the final outcome of this battle between Kanal and "the one" I sit comfortably in my chair knowing full well what the final outcome will be...

Yeah, being a lpb rocks. I got a cable modem first week of December and DANG! It rocks =). Maybe we'll have a game sometime Kanal, and you can kick the Olivetti's AI's butt (but only because I let you to make you think I'm more human than I really am ;).

...When I payed out the ass (48$ for the game and 27$ US for shipping) to get TS delivered to my hot little hands within 24 hours or less of its release. Faithfully I played the hell out of the game and within 2 days I had all the missions posted on Tumsun. Now... as I wait night after night "Hand Of Nod 2" waiting for "the one" known also as "crappy dialup connection (CDC)" to enter the room so we might have one...magical game. But no, CDC still hasn't gotten a cable modem so he can be a LPB (low ping bastard) like kanal. So here I go, its about the right time, Hand of Nod 2 awaits...

Community Resource Page | - 01.05.2000
archived news - up
Cali Girl just let me know of a kinda community resource page she's created, seeminlgy intended towards the newer members of the community. The page details such things like what a clan is and how it works, how to get you clan or WW site hosted and a decription of all the jobs available in the TS community, all the way from your lowly updater/staffer to your graphics pimp. It's a great resource, and worth keeping in your bookmarks if your ever after some general info.

Community Reunion? | - 01.05.2000
archived news - up
I noticed this on PCNC first, an email sent by [e-3n], who was the guy who said he was resigning from ths TS community (or something) at PCNC, et he showed right up again at BG:TS. Here's the email, followed by my thoghts (which you may want to skip)

To all who are interested:

Some of you may remember me as [e-3n] from the past 2 years. Recently, as I was scrolling down my ICQ list, I noticed the majority were TS related people. Now I know Tiberian Sun was a big turn down, but the wait was great, wasn't it? I mean we all had fun messing around with websites and in the chat rooms. So me and some fellow staff members of my gaming network are going to have a Tiberian Sun reunion. Anyone is welcome and I would especially like people from the very early stages to attend. We will hold this reunion in a chat room in a few weeks on the Gamer's Choice Online Network irc server. More Information will be provided later.

Ty Bartholomew

Sounds like a great idea in practise, and should be in theory too. I know where he's coming from, I *personally* was a little disapointed by TS (don't get me wrong, it's still easially an above average game, just the fact that WW left out so many things that would have made it better was a disapointment) to the extent that i'm still only up to both level 6 for GDI and Nod (so sue me...). Yet it has more been the community that's really kept me around and active than anything else.

er... where was I? I think the biggest issue what he exactly meant by the early stages of the community. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get the really early members in, our own Tim of course, along with ppl such as Format, Pyte, Josh, Snurre, Alkaline, Nate, hell even Jewboy for old time's sake (I know there's a stack of ppl I missed, and an equal amount more who were before my time). All those people (apart from Nate and Jewboy) have been online within the last week or so, so surely it wouldn't be too hard. With those people, and getting the whole crowd from early 98 (Techno, SK, Hypertank, Encoded, $creamer, the list goes on) would make this become, truely a great event. In the email, he didn't leave an internet address, so I guess we'll all have to wait for that information.

Trade Secrets | - 01.05.2000

heh, without any wh0ring of this site thus far (I didn't want to send emails to other webmasters to get us more hits... at least not for a while yet) we scored over three times the amount of hits yesterday that the infamous One Man Army received in its highest day, so obviously a few of you are still checking to see what’s doing with TTR, thx for your support. I'm just wondering how many of you will come back today... :/ I hadn't actually scoped out our hit thingy for months now, there's some pretty cool info in it. Like people reached The One Man Army after they searched for words like 'whore' and info on how to make bombs... WTF?

Sorry about all that stuff to read too, I actually typed the majority of those updates the day before as I had a bit of time to fill in, so I just cut and pasted em... lazy me. I'm also thinking about changing the headline color for the subject to something like black as it doesn't really stand out enough for me. Before I do, pls let me know if its an issue with anyone else and needs to be changed, or you're just happy with it as is. Sorry about my slacking today too. I ended out spending the entire day at the beach, scoping the hot topless chicks and engaging in other beach related activities. Because of that I kinda slacked with getting all that stuff up on the sidebar, so let's just pretend that yesterday all those '24' hour things said '48' instead. thx :) Yeah, thanks for reminding me about the poll Eric, I really appreciate it :( Airport lounges do own tho, back during WM's tour of Europe this time last year, I got to stay in all the British Airways ones (/me is a Quantas Club member, my dads company pays for it :) that are scattered around. The one in terminal 4 of that main London airport was especially unr00ly so as I had to wait like 4 hours for my connecting flight from there and I hadn't been on the net for like 5 weeks I visited all the sites and stuff. The attendants there were the best bit tho - British chicks = yummy.

And yea, random babe picks are coming :)

Lawyers Called In | - 01.05.2000
archived news - up
SYDNEY (Reuters) - After only one day of operation, than clan {-lp-] homepage is already facing strong legal trouble. Layers representing clan [-lp-] (NYSE: g0d) alerted the media today that attorney’s from the communist People's Party of TTR (NYSE: p1mp) had contacted them regarding the recent murder of TTR and the fact that they are currently partaking in extradition procedures with the Australian government for clan [-lp-] representative, who prefers to be known as 'The One.'

Little is known about 'The One', known in press circles under many of names, commonly as the International Man of Mystery, however he is renowned for his extreme sense of style, great taste and popularity with the ladies. Officials today warned that people should pay extra attention for satisfied chicks who expressed that they had just had the night of their lives. "This is an obvious calling card that 'The One' has been in the vicinity recently" reporters we're told earlier today in a press conference.

In his press conference today, Kanal the leader of the People's Party of TTR wished to distance himself from the [-lp-] homepage, stating "I have to deny the fact that I had anything to do with this LP crap." He later shocked reporters with his crude comments, referring to 'The One' as "a piece of Australian kangaroo shit "

"Obviously, this Kanal character is a racist bigot whose American opinion does not reach far with us," refuted a layer for [-lp-], ending his statement with "remember everyone, this is a great example of what happens when your children resort to drinking too much cheap alcohol and writing books on Masturbation," referring to a publication penned by Kanal last year during his stay at Boston. Another representative for [-lp-] was heard after the press conference, while trying to hold back tears, "can't he understand that Kangaroo's are people too?"

“Drugs are bad, mmmmkay?” added Councillor, Mr Macky, an expert on the subject of childhood delinquents.

In the statement, Kanal furthermore showed reason that leads many to conclude that he is not a very credible source, showing his lack of musical taste “(…)all that other techno music bullshit” This statement alone Is believed to be a major contributing factor leading to anti-Kanal sentiment.Towards the end of his statement, Kanal announced his alliance with Hamma and Royalty (NYSE: h0st) in his quest to make [-lp-] pay for their alleged murder of TTR. Kanal finalized his statement requesting that the community as a whole have as little to do with 'The One' as possible, however experts have expressed their opinion that this will hardly be possible, taking into account 'The Ones' remarkable charm and powers of persuasion. Well keep you up to date with matters as they come to hand.

WM I think even you might be proud of this one. I'm in the Miami International airport. Using a fake pass I got into the ultra elite admiral's club and i'm chilling with a coke and some cookies. Now wait, thats not even the best part. They have these computers, nice ones to, P2 HP Vectras, and I go to use one of them. The computer and its want to be security systems asked me to enter all my info, name, account #, location, etc etc bullshit bullshit. So I entered some l337 info like Martha Consuela and my account was a nice old random 59846189487. DAMN I'M GOOD. "Credentials Accepted - Logging On"

So here I am... and the site looks great. I'll have to get some good music up there though and try to get our friend mike to get a little more culture with his music :)

Damn y2k sucked ass. Nothing happened, not even a nice old terrorist attack, plane crash, computer crash nothing. U see, my master p1mpish plan was to have everything crash and then oh no i'm stranded on an island paradise. Oh what oh what can I do? But no everything had to be "y2k complient" fuck that shit. Can i say that? guess its to late.

Ok well onto some more haxoring in the admiral's club. Later.

BTW mike, if you didn't notice, before T-twilight was brutally hacked, I believe one of the top choices on the poll was "3ric 0\/\/n$ /\/\!k3" :)

To help that sidebar look a little less bare, I recenlty roped Toad in for a bit of an interview. While the chat is pretty informal, we still did manage to cover a few issues, such as his deperture from Tumsun and BG:TS, his thoughts on WOL cheating and his new site, BG:TT. I hope you enjoy the chat we had, it's a pretty long read but you should find at least parts of it interesting.

Further down the track I plan to do a few more interviews, especially with the players and clan leaders. I'm always open to suggestions as to who you would like to see interviewed.

WWN Articles | - 01.04.2000
archived news - up
In recent times, especially on TTR I haven’t really made an effort to hide the fact that I really do enjoy the rants written by Shadow over at the Temporal Rift. Yet even tho these article's are among the best written in the TS community, they don't really reach the acclaim that they deserve.

The new year isn't anything different as he's recently posted two new articles. The first titled "Patience" is a limited comparison between TS and AOK, and even tho he ended with a conclusion that both games were equal he showed illustrated how generally the TS multiplayer isn't anything special compared to the current stock of RTS games. One day I'll post my thoughts on AOK (I've only played the first 5 or so levels, and a spawned copy in a few multiplayer games) however his are fairly similar to mine.

The second article, "New Beginning" is a fairly brief look at the past year (literally only half a paragraph) and mainly centers on how Temporal Rift will change this year, covering a stack of new games it seems, yet the article didn't cover how they were going to remove Dude from their updating script, hopefully something that was just a simple oversight on Shadow's part. While not at interesting as the first article if you've got the spare minute (your visiting [-lp-] after all, so you *must* have at least a little spare time :) it's worth a quick look.

Link of the Week: FoO | - 01.04.2000
archived news - up
Our inaugural Link of the Week goes out to the Fall of Order, who re-opened a few days ago. If you don't remember them, they were the site that opened with a number of planned tournaments, however due to some problems (which caused their temporary closure) they never went ahead. Now they're back, sporting a nice new layout and a few more staff members, such as TheShadow from Tumsun. Furthermore, they've expanded the game they cover to not just WW related games, but a few of the Blizzard games and AOK as well. Generally, the site's well worth a look and seems to have a fairly promising future. Good luck to DeXtr3me and the rest of the guys over at FoO with their site

As allot of poeple (Oliver :) really enojoyed the Matrix, you might find this link I spotted on Slashdot pretty interesting. It's basiacally an article that describes how they did those scenes where the camera was moving around a stationary object, I guess one example of this was when Keanu Reeves dodged the bullets on the top of that building. If you're interested, enlighten yourself.

WM owns Y2K | - 01.04.2000
archived news - up
Is it just me, or was Y2K thing a real let-down? While I definatley wasn't one of those people who rounded up all the Kangaroo's and prepared for the world to turn into anarchy, I was kinda waiting for some isolated, yet important incident to happen, like a nuclear powerplant to explode or the power to go out in some city, or even a bug that caused all the planes leaving the Bahamas to fall from the sky :)

Yet when I when online well into new years day satisify my curiosity as to if anything had happened, and I didn't find alot. All I was greeted with was a stack of updating script's and message boards that displayed the year as either 1900 or 19100 and the biggest Y2K problem (at the time) was that a couple of Bus ticketing machine's in Australia didn't work.

What a let-down...

Yet having said that, it annoys me to see all these things on the news and online as to what a waste the money spent on the entire issue (*cough*Dude*cough*). I'm not sure if this is such an issue in other countries, as it is over here (apparently Australia spent the most per person on Y2K, about 10 times as much money per person than the UK) but all you see here on the TV are people that claim that it was just a scheme by the computer industry to get allot of money from something that was never a problem. Infact, I noticed one person claiming that it was all started by Bill Gates so that he could earn even more money. Sure, while I don't doubt that the issue was over hyped to some extent, if the problems wern't fixed then the world would be in a lot of a worse place than what it is now. I mean, ask yourself this question, if it wasn't so important than why did all the big companies pay millions of dollars to out sourc computer companies when there wasn't a problem. I'm sure that businesses such as banks would have had their own people create some form of a report showing that the problem existed that warrented such an expenditure. Maybe Y2K didn't eventuate to much, but at least it really did show how much of a role computer's play in today's society, and how easy it can be to put that society in danger... ph33r.

wh00p | - 01.04.2000
archived news - up
As you can see from the updates below, I'm very pleased to say - Welcome to [-lp-] :)

As TTR was recently closed for a little while for an all over re-design, Kane41 and I decided to open this site a little early on t-twilight.com, as it was after all, unused. As GX Network (who also host this domain) are currently having a good old holiday break, it will still be a little while before they would have gotten around to setting up the accounts for war.com. To put it simply, we couldn't wait to open.

I guess the main question is what is this site? What's its purpose? Ever since this time last year I always had plans to have a site which was along the lines of Colorless, or Freakdom-ain. The site would be based on the premise of a page for myself and my friends where we could post whatever we wanted, not so much worrying about getting lots of hits, but simply enjoying the site. With the formation of clan [-lp-] the idea of creating such a site became something more, and as you can see now it eventually ended the year old idea and became the site you see now.

Clan [-lp-] was originally setup a few months ago by a few people at Tumsun as a joke/parody towards the small clans out there who claimed that they were elite, and only would only accept the best players out there, hence the name 'Elite Pimps', or in hax0r talk, l33t p1mps. The aim of clan [-lp-] wasn't to win any tournaments (we haven’t even participated in one yet :) but was to prove that the essence of clan gaming should be to simply have fun, and enjoy yourself, as after all 99 percent of the clans out there are simply nothing like Death Row or 9 so why should everyone take the same attitude as them?

This page is just one (major) part of the clan. While this isnt a clan gaming page, it was created as a place for the clan members to have fun, to follow the ideals that [-lp-] was created with. Yet this page isn't and won't limited to [-lp-] members, for example we have Tim here too :)

Speaking of Tim, he's the one who created this layout for us, his many years of experience in p1mping leading him to the wise decision of putting Yasminne in the layout. Infact as a few of us have joked, I wouldn't e surprised if the pic of her gets us more hits than the rest of the site :) Seriously tho, Tim really saved this site with the layout (mine weren’t that special to say the least) and with only my comment asking that black didn't play much of a role in the layout, he came up with this. imho, the layout captures the style of this site perfectly, so massive props to Tim for doing it :)

As I said before, there really isn't any constraint on what's going to be posted on this site, yet in the end it is generally going to be a gaming site, centered on the WW community more than anything. The reason for this is simple, all current members here have their background in the TS community and therefore have quite an interest in it (note that I'm talking about the community, as apposed to the games ): However like I said there will be general gaming news too, along with reviews and previews on whatever we're playing. I wouldn't be surprised if a bit of E/N type content made its way into the site either. I guess we'll all just have to sit back and watch, to see what this site becomes.

I've already said enough. Currently allot of content isn't up yet, due to the fact that I've been slacking and we opened earlier than I expected however this will soon be fixed up. We’re not trying to do anything ambitious with this site, like creating a community around it, or forming it into the largest site on some subject, we're just here to have some fun, and I hope that you, the visitor, do too.
